New Tekla Structures 16 brings along a better workflow

01-02-2010

Tekla has launched its annual main version of Tekla Structures BIM software. In addition to Windows 7 compatibility and altogether close to 500 feature improvements, the new Tekla Structures 16 introduces several workflow benefits, such as an improved solution for cast-in-place concrete and again better IFC data exchange.

Tekla Structures BIM (Building Information Modeling) software is being developed according to a long-term plan of improved user experience, process, and functionality. This is to provide the whole building design and construction project team a unique model-based way of collaboration, including possibilities for increased business, productivity, and sustainability.

Tekla Structures 16 is ‘all about you and your team’ and compatible with the Windows 7 operating system. There are many features to improve the users’ workflow, such as an improved solution for cast-in-place design and detailing, again better IFC data exchange, better utilization of reference models, improved numbering, and model publishing tools, such as a free application to share the model over the Internet. New features include improved usability by snapping tools and by zooming to selected parts, an updated Master Drawing Catalog, better object-level settings, and new filtering and instant graphics on drawings.

In addition, Tekla has started to move towards a more efficient online delivery of new versions. The Tekla Structures 16 installation has been built according to Microsoft’s requirements for the Windows 7 certification. The Tekla Structures product box, if needed, is now made from recycled material.

”With this new version it is very important for us to introduce a BIM process that is based on the detailed building information model. Tekla Structures 16 includes a newly developed offering for cast-in-place concrete design and detailing, especially for Self-Performing Cast-in-Place contractors,” says Tekla Executive Vice President Risto Räty. “Moving towards a greener installation is a small step forward but still part of the bigger sustainability benefits that implementing BIM can bring to construction.”
